Video may have killed the radio star but when it comes to online marketing, it can literally be a lifesaver when it comes to your small business. Trust me- the most frequent comment I got from clients when I was fitness coaching was “I found you on YouTube.”
If you’ve been wondering whether to put your brand/business on YouTube, it all comes down to 4 very simple questions.
Video is the perfect way to showcase your products- from product demonstrations, to how-tos, all the way to user testimonials and reviews- videos are MUCH more compelling than any blog post. If a picture is worth a thousand words, a video is worth a million.
Want to know the secret to fast tracking your way through the whole Know, Like, Trust factor (you know- the one where people need to feel as if they know, like and trust you BEFORE opening their wallet to buy)? Seeing and hearing you in action. This is true whether you’re selling a product or a service- but a smidge more when it comes to marketing services.
Just like those selling products, you can craft helpful how-to videos relating to your specific service. You can make it as broadly or specifically related as possible- even doing reviews for other products relating to the needs you’re serving.
Yep, I used the S word. Video can be a pretty awesome tool when it comes to highlighting your knowledge regarding whatever it is you’re selling. Remember that trust factor above?
Magic happens when you SHARE your sh$t. We’re talking tremendously useful content. The kind that would make your ideal client say, “Hey, I want to work with this person!” or “I need to buy this stuff right now!” Outline videos where you’d answer your ideal client’s most frequently asked questions.
Get to know your ideal client, their pain points, and big questions. Once you do, you’ll come up with ideas for several hella crazy useful videos.
Want to drive folks to your website or sales page WITHOUT having to pay for ads? Guess what. YouTube is awesome WITH awesome sauce for that.
There are 4 billion video views on YouTube PER DAY. Millenials, Gen X and baby boomers ALL use YouTube - and not just for silly cat videos.
It’s the second most used Search engine in the world. It processes more than 3 billion searches per month! Second to Google and bigger than Bing, Yahoo, Ask and AOL combined. All people searching for a specific something.
That’s a boatload of potential customers who could find your business on YouTube.
And you know what?
9%!??! You can get a BIG leg up on your competition simply by jumping on board YouTube and showcasing your brand.
Still wondering if you should put your business on YouTube?
IMHO it’s a true no-brainer.
If you’re thinking “But I don’t have a fancy-schmancy camera/sound equipment/lighting/editing software,” I’m here to tell you GET OVER IT. You don’t need a $700 camera, expensive sound equipment or a whole kit and caboodle kind of lighting kit.
I use my iPhone, a cheap tripod, the IMovie editing app and natural lighting from a window in my office. That’s it. And I've racked up over a million views to my channel.
Of course, if you have the money to get really nice gear, by all means, go for it. But don’t make the lack of blinged up equipment hold you back from creating really useful videos for your peeps.
If you’re afraid of being judged or are feeling particularly self-conscious about being in front of the camera, I feel you! When I started out, it felt just about as daring to record myself talking as it would have if I had run around our block naked. My first videos are a complete disaster complete with an unsteady camera and crappy audio quality.
Scared of negative comments? Haters gonna hate. Even really really ridiculously good looking people get a whole lot of trolling on their channels. Remember: just because trolls are out there on the interwebs doesn’t mean you have to feed them. If you DO get a negative comment, you can always delete it – and even block the user from further commenting on your channel.
If you, like me, aren’t feeling quite camera-ready or perfect, take heart in the fact that you, my friend, are probably your WORST critic. So let the self-consciousness slip away, hit record and act as if the lens of your camera is the eye of your very best friend in the world.
Chances are if you’ve got a passion for your product or service, you have sooooo much goodness to share with the world via video.
So go and do it already!
